The anticipated launch of Apple's Vision Pro in China is looking more likely following the introduction of a 3D shopping app designed specifically for the headset. Alibaba's Taobao, one of China's leading online marketplaces, has debuted this innovative application, suggesting the Vision Pro's arrival could be just around the corner.
Currently available only in the United States, the Apple Vision Pro has been the subject of much speculation regarding its international rollout, expected to precede the WWDC 2024. China is now poised to be among the first overseas markets to embrace this advanced technology.
Released last Friday, the Taobao app leverages the capabilities of the Apple Vision Pro to offer a fully immersive 3D shopping experience. Users can visualize electronics, appliances, and furniture within their own homes using augmented reality. For instance, one user described how viewing a DJI drone through the app allowed them to manipulate and inspect the drone's model in their living space, controlling it with hand gestures and viewing it from various angles.
The app also allows comparisons between products by placing them side by side in the user's environment, adjusting lighting and positioning for a realistic depiction.
Currently in its testing phase, the official launch of the app is expected to coincide with the release of the Apple Vision Pro in China. While Apple has not confirmed specific release dates, CEO Tim Cook hinted at a 2024 launch in China, with speculations pointing towards an April or May release.
Alongside Alibaba, Tencent, another tech behemoth in China, is reportedly preparing to adapt its apps for compatibility with the Apple Vision Pro, indicating broad support for the device within the Chinese tech community.
